Chinoiserie Bridge, Co. Kilkenny

This Chinoiserie style bridge was commissioned as a centre piece for the riverside garden at Dangan Cottage in County Kilkenny. Chinoiserie is a style inspired by art and design from China and the far east and used extensively in Europe in the mid 1700s.

The Dangan bridge crosses an old mill stream to an island  garden jutting out into the main river. It is built on the site of an earlier bridge and incorporates the old RSJ structure. The walkway is made of larch planks and the Chinoiserie style handrail is secured with carefully concealed metal braces.

The bridge and ornate handrail set under a mature weeping willow provides a magnificent centre piece to the exquisite gardens of Dangan Lodge sweeping down to the banks of the Nore.
